Job summary

The YMCA of Southeast Ventura is seeking an enthusiastic program lead to direct and implement our child development curriculum, delivering a high quality program and mentoring entry level teachers and aides to ensure a strong, values-based experience for children and families. This role emphasizes safeguarding children, maintaining positive family engagement, and ensuring safety policies are followed.

Qualifications

• At least 12 postsecondary semester units in early childhood education.
• Minimum 6 months of work in a licensed child care center.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
• All online training completed before starting.
• Mandated reporting course completed within 30 days of hire.
• Familiarity with mandated reporting procedures.
• Ability to build relationships with school staff.
• Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
• CPR and First Aid certifications current.
• Health and TB clearance.
• TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations up to date.
• Criminal records clearance.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum and program activities within established guidelines.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming focused on achievement and belonging.
• Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities.
• Follows policies including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Monitors environments for hazards and informs senior staff.
• Makes ongoing observations and evaluations of each child.
• Maintains effective communication with parents and engages volunteers.
• Uses positive reinforcement to address behavior.
• Mentors aides and entry level teachers.
• Maintains program site, equipment and records.
• Mentors at least one staff.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Participates in family nights and program activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
