Job summary

Sevymca in Simi Valley, CA is seeking a program leader to direct our child development program, implement curriculum, and mentor entry-level teachers. This role emphasizes safe, engaging activities aligned with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

You will oversee quality programming, ensure compliance with policies, and maintain records while fostering strong relationships with parents, staff, and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law; completion with passing grades of at least 12 postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes.
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.
  • Health and TB clearance; up-to-date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Implements curriculum and program activities within established guidelines.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming to build achievement and belonging.
  • Supervises children and all activities, ensuring ADA accommodations where appropriate.
  • Follows policies related to medical, disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Performs safety checks and removes hazards; informs senior staff.
  • Makes ongoing observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains communication with parents; engages volunteers.
  • Uses positive reinforcement to address behavioral concerns.
  • Mentors aides and entry-level teachers.
  • Maintains program site, equipment and records.
  • Mentors a minimum of 1 staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings; completes online trainings.
  • Participates in family nights and program activities.
