Job summary

Holyoke YMCA is seeking a Group Leader for our Holyoke site to supervise a group of children and deliver developmentally appropriate afterschool programming. You will maintain a safe, engaging environment that aligns with the Y’s values and involve youth in decision-making and reflection.

The role requires CPR/First Aid/AED certification, ability to work with diverse populations, and completing EEC training within 30 days. YMCA Leader Certification should be pursued within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Experience with children in an afterschool setting preferred.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
• Complete the EEC required training within first 30 days of hire.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• YMCA Leader Certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a group of children and program activities.
• Follows all policies, procedures, and standards; maintains the program site, equipment, and records.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming aligned with Y values.
• Creates positive rapport with youth and models relationship-building skills.
• Provides opportunities for youth leadership, problem solving, and reflection.
• Communicates with parents/caregivers about child needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
• Attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates YMCA core values.
