The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Youth Program Coordinator II in Waxahachie Corps, located in Waxahachie, TX.

Job Summary:

Coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of specific program(s) for youth between the ages of 6 and 18 within a designated program or multiple program sites. Provides leadership and supervision to assigned program and volunteer staff; and controls expenses as assigned. Plans activities and facilitates programs for groups of youth in assigned Specific program areas (STEM, STEAM, Art, Sports/Athletics, Aquatics, Education). Other duties include writing program reports, supervising youth, and transporting youth in program vehicles. Builds and maintains a professional relationship with all Club members and their families in order to help advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions:

This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.

  1. Serves as the day-to-day supervisor of all assigned program staff and volunteers; assigns and oversees daily duties of staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; provides input to performance evaluations; informs Branch Manager of any staff issues requiring attention.
  2. Opens and closes the program in compliance with established operating hours; closes and locks windows and doors, turns off lights before leaving the Club and straightens the areas before leaving each day.
  3. Provides leadership and constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner; exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
  4. Ensures staff has cleaned the kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards; assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Club facilities and grounds.
  5. During Club hours, assumes role and responsibilities of Branch Manager in his/her absence.
Program Implementation Responsibilities (40%):
  1. Ensures that teachers/program aides have lesson plans completed in a timely manner; assists teachers/program aides as they administer activities for school age children; ensures that activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun and safe for the children; locates supplies for teachers/program aides to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.
  2. Participates in the implementation of all activities and programs; assists all Club employees and volunteers in maintaining the cleanliness and attractiveness of all facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  3. Helps to organize special program events or field trips; advertises events appropriately; works in conjunction with appropriate departments for social media updates.
  4. Implements educational, spiritual, and character-building programming within the structure of the programs set forth by director; provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
  5. Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same; maintains accountability and inventory of all recreational equipment; informs the Branch Manager of any supply needs so that they may be ordered.
  6. Collects all statistical information for all grants, licensing, and Divisional and Territorial in a timely manner as required by the Corps Officers and Branch Manager/Director; prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  7. Maintains the program materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for materials necessary for programs.
  8. Reports all accidents to the Branch Manager/Director in an accurate and timely manner.
  9. Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.
  10. Transports patrons and children to and from the program; observes good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of patrons and The Salvation Army vehicles.
Program Development Responsibilities (30%):
  1. Plans and coordinates all activities and programs including the youth mentorship, youth tutoring, and summer day camp programs; assists the Branch Manager/Director in meeting the goals of the program.
  2. Organizes and supervises field trips; including but not limited to setting up, gathering all supplies for, arranging payment, scheduling staff within ratio, getting directions & communicating them to staff and making sure events are scheduled accordingly.
  3. Ensures the evaluation of programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.
  2. Coordinates money paid by program participants with the Receptionist; maintains accurate and complete records of payments.
  3. Prepares and serves children snacks and meals (when appropriate).
  4. May oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
  2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
  3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood curriculum development.
  4. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
  5. Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general early childhood education curriculum.
  6. Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services and two (2) years’ progressively responsible experience in the management, administration and operation of a youth program, with at least one year as a Program Coordinator I or equivalent or three (3) years’ experience working in a similar youth serving organization or any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License (CDL preferred)

First Aid and C.P.R. Certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  2. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
  3. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
  4. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and follow all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  5. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
  6. Duties are usually performed standing and walking and relieved by periods of sitting to perform other duties.
  7. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
