Job summary

The Lowell Association for the Blind seeks a part-time Youth Program Coordinator to manage youth services, internships, transportation, and administrative tasks in the Merrimack Valley.

You will oversee programs for ages 5–22, coordinate referrals with schools and agencies, and supervise staff and volunteers while maintaining records. Fluency in Spanish is a plus and a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience working with youth and teens preferred; working with blind/VI youth is a plus but not required.
  • Flexible schedule including some evenings and most weekends.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CORI background check required.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

  • Create program materials and informational publications.
  • Report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate events, field trips, and workshops for all youth programs. Programs currently include:
    • Youth Program - Social/Recreational, ages 5-13 (meets 2x a month)
    • Senior Youth Program – Social/Recreational, ages 14-21 (meets once a month)
    • Senior Teen Employment Program (STEP) – Employment readiness, ages 14-21 (meets 2x a month)
    • Visually Impaired Partners (VIP) Program – Mentoring with blind and visually impaired adults and youth, ages 14-21 (meets once a month)
  • Develop all relevant materials, curriculum, and activities for youth programs.
  • Recruit appropriate participants for specific programs. Work with staff from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind and local schools to coordinate referrals.
  • Identify new opportunities to link with other agencies in the Greater Lowell area.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to facilitate employment and internship placements for STEP program participants.
  • Schedule and provide transportation for participants using the agency van.
  • Drive the agency van and work program events as necessary.
  • Supervise and schedule volunteers and staff.
  • Maintain appropriate attendance, documentation, and billing as required.
  • Be a positive role model for all program participants.
  • Create program materials and informational publications.
Qualifications:

Youth Program Coordinator

The Lowell Association for the Blind is looking to fill the position of Youth Program Coordinator for blind/visually impaired children in the Merrimack Valley. This challenging, rewarding position will coordinate services, internships, transportation, supervise staff, and assist with administrative functions. The Youth Program Coordinator works with blind/visually impaired youth ages 5-22 in the Youth, Sr. Youth Program, Visually Impaired Partners (VIP), a site-based mentoring program, and the Senior Teen Employment Program (STEP).

The Youth Program Coordinator position is 20-30 hours per week; weekend work is required. An increase in hours may be available in the future pending program funding. Human services, youth, or special needs experience preferred. Must have a valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record. Must be able to pass a CORI. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
