Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Public Library seeks a Librarian I-Youth to provide advanced library services, promote collections, and conduct information literacy classes for diverse patrons. This full-time, rotating-shift role includes instruction, programming, and collaboration with community partners to expand lifelong learning.

Candidates must possess an MLIS from an ALA-accredited program within 12 months of hire. Starting salary is negotiable; benefits include health and retirement options.

Qualifications

• Must obtain a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of hire.
• Failure to obtain MLIS within twelve (12) months results in demotion to the next qualified vacancy.

Responsibilities

• Promote library services and programs to diversify opportunities for patrons.
• Conduct information literacy classes, tours, and programs for school groups and the public.
• Instruct patrons in catalog use, resources, and devices; assist with research needs.
• Develop partnerships and programs to support lifelong learning; evaluate materials for relevance and accessibility.
