Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston in South Boston, MA is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support safe and timely meal preparation for Club members. You will assist the Culinary Program Manager with food prep, service, sanitation, and records, helping ensure meals meet health guidelines and program requirements.

This role requires working afternoon and evening hours during the school year and morning hours in the summer, a HS diploma or GED, and some kitchen experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation.
  • At least one year of experience in food service, meal preparation, kitchen operations, or a similar setting.
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Ability to follow allergen precautions and support dietary recommendations.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, including afternoon and evening hours during the school year and morning or early afternoon hours during the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks to Club members ages 6-18 as part of BGCB’s school-year and summer food programs. Follow applicable USDA, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, local board of health, food safety, and sanitation requirements.
  • Follow established menus, portion sizes, meal patterns, allergen precautions, and dietary accommodation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate daily meal counts, temperature logs, production records, and other required program documentation. Report food safety concerns, injuries, accidents, equipment issues, and other concerns promptly to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the supervision and redirection of members participating in kitchen, cafeteria, or culinary activities as appropriate. Secure and maintain kitchen equipment, supplies, food, cleaning materials, and other resources belonging to the culinary program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, cafeteria, storage, and food preparation.
  • Know safety and emergency procedures and enforce applicable rules and protocols to support the safety of members, staff, and food-service operations.
  • Participate in Culinary Department meetings, staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as assigned. Collaborate with culinary and clubhouse staff to support meal service, Club events, and nutrition or cooking activities.
