Job summary

The Assistant Ice Skating Instructor supports the Learn to Skate programs by helping lead instructor deliver safe, engaging, and fun skating lessons for youth participants. This position assists with instruction, provides hands-on support on the ice, and helps maintain a positive learning environment for all skaters.

Classes take place Sundays from 3:45pm to 6:00pm at the DeForest Yards Ice Rink. This seasonal, part-time role offers about 3 hours per week and pays $20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 15 years.
• Strong skating ability and familiarity with basic techniques.
• Experience with children preferred but not required.
• Positive attitude, patience, and enthusiasm for teaching and skating.
• Ability to arrive on time and work with instructors and participants.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with instructors and participants.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Instructor in teaching skating techniques appropriate to program level (Little Skaters, Snowplow Sam, or Basic 1-6).
• Encourage and support participants, especially beginners, to build confidence and improve balance, coordination, and skating skills.
• Demonstrate proper skating form and safety practices.
• Help organize and manage games, drills, and practice time on the ice.
• Monitor participants' safety and ensure helmet and protective gear use.
• Assist with setup and cleanup before and after each class.
• Provide feedback to the Lead Instructor on participant progress or safety concerns.
• Represent the Village of DeForest in a professional and friendly manner.
