Job summary

KBEC Group Inc. seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP)/Youth Residential Mentor for the Youth Transitional Housing program in Washington, DC. The role provides 24-hour awake supervision and mentorship to youths aged 18–24 experiencing homelessness or at risk, helping them access housing, education, job prep, and health care.

The incumbent will document progress, coordinate with DHS and partners, and ensure safety in a site-based shelter as part of a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 1 year of youth-related work experience, including work with youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
• Background checks required prior to hire: TB test, CJIS (FBI) clearance, DC Police Clearance, drug and alcohol screen, health screening; CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Experience with transition-aged youth is preferred; sensitivity to needs of diverse youth.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving abilities; ability to de-escalate crises.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour awake coverage and supervision of shelter and clients.
• Assist youth with housing searches and independent living goals; support in obtaining IDs, Social Security, SNAP, Medicaid, and birth certificates.
• Assist with career planning, education, job search, and psychosocial supports aligned with case plans.
• Conduct safety checks, room inspections, and document incidents following program rules.
• Deliver crisis intervention and mediation; stay alert and engaged during shifts.
• Maintain client files and program data; use HMIS and other shelter software; attend trainings.
