CAMBA is hiring a Youth Facilitator I/Group Leader for the After-School Program at PS 212 in Brooklyn. The role focuses on safely guiding youth in grades K-5, delivering curriculum, supervising activities, and coordinating with school staff to ensure a productive after-school environment.

Responsibilities include planning daily lessons, leading team meetings, monitoring attendance, and supporting students in SEL, literacy, STEAM, and college/careers introductions.

Qualifications

  • Be 18 years or older, with at least two years of direct experience working with children under age 13.
  • Group Leaders must have content knowledge, experience and skills to implement program activities.
  • Familiarity with the youth development field or after-school/summer camp experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish or Chinese preferred.

  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records and assist with reports.
  • Oversee setup and cleanup of classrooms and materials.
  • Facilitate skills-building activities aligned with program goals.
  • Lead activities in SEL, physical activity, academic support, STEAM and college/careers introduction.
  • Attend weekly PD and monthly trainings; participate in staff meetings.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred

The CAMBA After-School Program at PS 212 is funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and other funders, to serve approximately 148 children and youth in grades K-5. Children participate in program activities (such as homework help, conflict resolution, academic enrichment, recreation and creative arts programming) during after school hours and thirteen school holidays.

What Does a Youth Facilitator I/ Group Leader Do:

  • Ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following CAMBA Education and Youth Development Staff Policies and Procedures Handbook, including but not limited to procedures and protocols regarding safety, supervision, accident and incident reporting.
  • Lead the 5-minute meeting (FMM) before the start of program each day in order to share information about the plan for the day with the Assistant Facilitator.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any incidents, including accidents, behavioral issues, or emergencies.
  • Research new materials and methods of instruction to keep curriculum current and relevant.
  • Actively support and guide students and staff in adhering to program guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Design daily lesson plans to meet core course objectives.
  • Actively supervise students in the hallways, bathrooms, and classrooms to maintain a safe and conducive environment.
  • Coordinate curriculum and daily activities with school personnel, as appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate daily student attendance records, collaborating with Youth Workers to maintain these records.
  • Oversee the setup of classrooms before activities and ensure that rooms are cleaned and materials are stored properly afterward
  • Directly facilitate and/or oversee the facilitation of skills-building activities as required by the program, ensuring they align with program goals and objectives.
  • Manage classrooms and/or small groups effectively to maximize client learning.
  • Review all homework assignments.
  • Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.as well as participate in staff trainings.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports, as requested.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
  • Lead activities on SEL, Physical Activity, Academic Support/HW Help, STEAM & Literacy, and Introduction to College/Careers,
    • Attend weekly staff PD and holiday PD days. In addition, completion of monthly self-paced trainings
    • Display program board daily (program includes Group agreements, consequences, jobs, etc.).
    • Daily completion of the classroom check list
    • Daily completion of the homework check list
    • Implementation and documentation of program wide incentive programs on a daily basis

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • Be 18 years or older, with at least two years of direct experience working with children under age 13 years. Preferably, they will have an associate’s degree, but at a minimum, they will have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:

  • Group Leaders must have the necessary content knowledge, experience, and skills to effectively implement the program activities, as required. Familiarity with the youth development field, after school or summer camp experience; strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferably Bi-lingual in English and Spanish or Chinese.

Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:

  • New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Sex Offender Registry (SOR) clearance
  • New York State Central Register (SCR) clearance for child abuse and maltreatment
  • New York State Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance
  • New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) clearance, as applicable
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting, as required
  • completion of the required health and safety trainings listed below within the first week of employment:
    • Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
    • Building on Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
    • Identifying and Responding to Anaphylaxis: Elijah’s Law (1.5 hours)
    • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma-Informed Practice (45 minutes)
    • Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)
    • Continued eligibility and maintenance of all required clearances throughout employment. Failure to maintain required clearances may result in removal from duties involving children and/or further employment action.
  • Complete a one-hour training, provided by DYCD, on the following topics:
    • Mental health and mental illness
    • Engagement and de-escalation strategies
    • Referral and crisis management protocols
    • Mental health resources

Compensation: $21.86/hour
