Job summary

CAMBA is hiring an Assistant Youth Facilitator I/Group Worker for the After-School Program at PS 212 in Brooklyn. The role supports K-5 students with homework help, enrichment and safe supervision, reporting to the Program Director. Includes training requirements and background clearances, with compensation at $18.04 per hour.

This temp/part-time position emphasizes daily student engagement, collaboration with program leaders, and adherence to program policies and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or HSE required.
• At least 1 year experience with children under 13.
• Successful background clearances or ability to obtain.
• Familiarity with youth development and after-school activities preferred.
• Criminal history checks and health trainings completed within first week.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of participants per program policies.
• Participate in 5-minute daily meeting with the Program Leader.
• Support students in following program guidelines daily.
• Assist in implementing incentive programs and track progress weekly.
• Supervise students to maintain a safe environment in hallways and classrooms.
• Take daily student attendance and assist in setup before/after activities.
• Distribute and collect instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with summer camp activities to reinforce learning.
• Adhere to arrival/dismissal, snack, transitions and trip guidelines.
• May co-facilitate clubs and operate learning aids like projectors/smartboards.

The CAMBA After-School Program at PS 212 is funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and other funders, to serve approximately 148 children and youth in grades K-5. Children participate in program activities (such as homework help, conflict resolution, academic enrichment, recreation and creative arts programming) during after school hours and thirteen school holidays.

What Does a Assistant Youth Facilitator I/ Group Worker Do:

• Ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following CAMBA Education and Youth Development Staff Policies and Procedures Handbook, including but not limited to procedures and protocols regarding safety, supervision, accident and incident reporting.
• Participate in 5-minute meeting (FMM) before the start of program each day as led by assigned Program Leader in order to share information about the plan for the day and the Assistant’s role.
• Actively support students in following program guidelines on a daily basis.
• Actively support program leader/program specialist in the implementation and documentation of program wide incentive programs with students on a daily basis, and provide follow up on a weekly basis.
• Actively supervise students in the hallways, bathrooms and classrooms to ensure a safe environment.
• Assist in taking daily student attendance.
• Assist in classroom setup before and after program activity.
• Distribute, collect, store instructional materials and/or sports equipment/games.
• Assist clients, individually or in groups, with summer camp activities to present or to reinforce learning concepts.
• Adhere to program polices regarding student arrival and dismissal, snack procedures, transition procedures and trip guidelines.
• May assist in the facilitation of a club activity.
• May operate learning aids such as film and projectors, smartboards, smart TVs, etc.
• May prepare requisitions for instructional materials and supplies.
• May type and copy instructional materials for distribution.
• May confer with family members on progress of clients.
• May co-facilitate a club activity.
• Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over a period of time.

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

• Education, Licenses and/or Experience Required:
  • High School Diploma or HSE, or
  • One year experience working with children under 13 years of age
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the youth development field, after school or summer camp experience; strongly preferred.

• New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Sex Offender Registry (SOR) clearance
• New York State Central Register (SCR) clearance for child abuse and maltreatment
• New York State Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance
• New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) clearance, as applicable
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting, as required
• completion of the required health and safety trainings listed below within the first week of employment:
  • Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
  • Building on Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
  • Identifying and Responding to Anaphylaxis: Elijah’s Law (1.5 hours)
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma-Informed Practice (45 minutes)
  • Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)
  • Continued eligibility and maintenance of all required clearances throughout employment. Failure to maintain required clearances may result in removal from duties involving children and/or further employment action.
• Complete a one-hour training, provided by DYCD, on the following topics:
  • Mental health and mental illness
  • Engagement and de-escalation strategies
  • Referral and crisis management protocols
  • Mental health resources

Compensation: $18.04/hour
