Job summary

The Salvation Army in Richmond, VA is seeking a Part Time Recreation Assistant for the PMC-Central Virginia Area Command. The role offers evening shifts (M-F 1:00 p.m.–6:30 p.m.) for 25 hours per week with benefits.

Responsibilities include creating youth development programs, maintaining facilities, and supporting community youth activities, while adhering to Salvation Army policies. Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED and experience with children and youth is preferred.

  • Previous work in related field with Children and Youth preferred.

  • Assists in maintaining all storage areas keeping them orderly and clean.
  • Abides by and enforce all Salvation Army policies and procedures.

Salary Range: $13.55 - $15.00 Hourly

Job Shift: Evening

Schedule/Hours: M - F 1:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. (25 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • This job is performed in a youth center environment and out in the community. Time is also spent at facilities similar to youth recreational facility or community center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and at times loud. Work sites are often located in low-income areas and challenging neighborhoods.
  • Position requires employees to occasionally work with challenging youth and family members
  • Ability to lift (or obtain assistance lifting) moderately heavy (30-60 lbs.) program equipment following appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words, communicating orally with others accurately and clearly.
  • Position requires travel within the community and to participate in off-site Center events.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities on a regular basis requiring constant motion (standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, pushing/pulling and hand-eye coordination) necessary to lead and participate in a variety of youth programming and physical activities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Previous work in related field with Children and Youth preferred.
