Job summary

Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is a nonprofit organization serving immigrant and low-income New Yorkers through education and youth programs. The CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) supports students and families with education, career readiness, and leadership development across multiple NYC sites.

We are seeking a full-time program assistant at International High School at Lafayette (Brooklyn) to coordinate activities, workshops, and partnerships.

Qualifications

• Current college student; college graduate preferred.
• Prior experience working with high school youths and families is preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between CPC, worksites/industry partners, and funding agency.
• Assist and guide high school students with short- and long-term goals.
• Refer CPC’s services to youth and families navigating American culture as new immigrants.
• Develop and facilitate workshops on positive youth development.
• Provide counseling and case management; enter notes and track progress.
• Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and retention of participants.
• Maintain participant files and track attendance and outcomes.
• Establish partnerships with diverse sectors and manage relationships.
• Plan and facilitate work readiness training and orientation.
• Comply with DYCD policies and procedures.
• Support program inquiries and provide troubleshooting.
• Perform weekly assessments with worksites and evaluate participants.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic, and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why we use an asset‑based approach to maximize clients’ current strengths. Whether in our schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self‑advocacy, and community building. Our programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.

School Violence Prevention Program (SVP): NYSED SVP program provides students with a safe, supportive environment focused on preventing violence and promoting positive decision‑making. Through mentoring, conflict‑resolution workshops, social‑emotional learning, leadership activities, academic support, and recreational enrichment, students develop communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills. The program empowers youth to manage conflicts peacefully, build positive relationships, and contribute to a safe and supportive school community.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP): Funded through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 to 24 with paid, summer work experience and project‑based learning opportunities for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in entry‑level positions across a variety of sectors and industries, and are provided with workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, continuing education, and other life.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as a liaison between CPC, worksites / industry partners, and funding agency.
• Assist and guide high school students with their short‑and‑long term goals, whether it be academically, financially, or professionally.
• Refer CPC’s direct services and resources to youth and families as they navigate the American Culture as new immigrants.
• Develop and facilitate informative and interactive workshops related to positive, holistic youth development.
• Provide individualized guidance and counseling, and case management services; enter participant case notes and track progress, including services received.
• Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and retention of program participants.
• Maintain participant files/programmatic documents and track attendance, progress, and outcomes.
• Establish and develop new partnerships with variety sectors and industries and maintain ongoing relationships with existing partnerships.
• Streamline an effective process in enrollment and job placement.
• Planning and facilitation of work readiness training, interactive project‑based learning workshops, and program orientation.
• Comply with all DYCD policies and administrative procedures.
• Provide support and/or troubleshooting to program‑related inquiries.
• Perform weekly assessments with worksites; survey and evaluate participants and worksites.
• Assist with program audits, closeouts, and site visits administered by DYCD.
• Attend staff meeting training as required by CPC and DYCD.
• Assist with administrative aspects of the SYEP program with data entry, compiling, filing, and organizing and maintaining worksites and participants folders (hard copy or digital)
• Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Education and Experience

• Current college student: College graduate preferred.
• Prior experience working with High School youths and families is preferred but not necessary.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for youth development.
• Dynamic, engaging, and capable of effectively working in a team environment.
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; knowledge of teen and immigrant issues helpful
• Knowledge of MS office applications and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and Webex.
• Willingness to travel to worksites via public transportation.
• Bilingual; fluency in English and any of the following languages Arabic/Chinese/Spanish.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

• $26.93- $29.12 per hour (equivalent annual salary of $49K to $53K); 35 hours per week.
