Job summary

Montclair YMCA is seeking a Junior Coders Instructor for a regular part-time position in Montclair, New Jersey. The role involves delivering beginner coding, robotics, and problem-solving activities for children ages 4–6, using age-appropriate, hands-on methods.

The instructor implements curriculum under supervision, prepares engaging lessons, and maintains a positive classroom environment. Flexible evenings and family nights support are possible, with opportunities to contribute to youth

Qualifications

• Expertise in a specified subject area.
• HS/GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Prior working with children, preferably in a group setting.
• CPR/AED preferred and to be completed within the first 90 days of employment.
• Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA.
• Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Designs and implements age-appropriate Junior Coders lesson plans for children 4–6.
• Introduces children to foundational coding concepts via hands-on activities.
• Incorporates age-appropriate coding materials and resources into lessons.
• Creates and leads coding challenges to encourage exploration and problem solving.
• Maintains accurate attendance and reports to the director as needed.
• Promotes safety, inclusivity, and respectful behavior in class.
• Attends staff meetings and participates in required trainings.
