Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is seeking a part-time Kids Associate at our Matthews location. You will supervise children, lead crafts, games, and storytelling, and ensure a safe, engaging environment while guardians use YMCA facilities.

Responsibilities include following safety procedures, communicating with parents, and maintaining attendance records. A high school diploma and experience with children are required, with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience with children in childcare, camp, or educational setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children and parents.
• Ability to provide a nurturing and structured environment while maintaining safety policies.
• Understanding of and commitment to YMCA mission, values, and policies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage children in a safe, structured, and positive environment.
• Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, including crafts, games, and storytelling.
• Ensure safety and well-being of all children by following childcare policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized childcare space, including sanitizing toys and equipment.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child’s experience and incidents.
• Monitor and support children’s behavior with positive reinforcement and redirection.
• Ensure check-in/check-out procedures are followed and attendance is accurate.
• Respond to emergency situations following YMCA safety protocols.
• Collaborate with childcare team to ensure high-quality care.
• Uphold YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
