Job Description

POSITION: Youth Care Worker, Unaccompanied Alien Children Services Program

DEPARTMENT: Family Support Services

REPORTS TO: Lead Shift Youth Care Worker

The Unaccompanied Alien Children Services Program serves children and youth with challenging behaviors, especially trauma-related symptoms. Staff are bilingual (Spanish/English) and receive specialized training in refugee needs and Evidence-Based Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). The program offers a safe, therapeutic, family-like environment that respects each child's age, cultural, ethnic, religious heritage, dietary needs, native language, sexual orientation, and gender identity, under the supervision of the Program Director.

Basic Function

The youth care worker provides supervision, support, and guidance to children, fostering their positive growth. Responsibilities include maintaining a hazard-free household, meal preparation, completing logs and reports, participating in meetings, and accompanying children to activities or appointments.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a warm, homelike atmosphere and build individual relationships with children.
  • Supervise daily activities: wake-up, school, meals, chores, bedtime, and appointments.
  • Monitor children's physical well-being, clothing, food, and medical treatments.
  • Apply positive discipline and communicate structure and limits.
  • Transport children to outside activities and appointments.
  • Maintain household cleanliness and report maintenance issues.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to menus.
  • Hold petty cash and valuables as assigned.
  • Complete reports and logs, participate in treatment plan implementation.
  • Attend training and workshops for professional growth.
Schedule

Flexible, with availability for emergencies and coverage as needed.

  • Ability to support children's educational needs.
  • Support, nurture, and discipline children positively.
  • Proven cooking and household maintenance skills.
  • Emotional stability, patience, and social skills to relate professionally with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • Alignment with the agency's mission and policies.
