Position Title: Lead Youth Care Worker, Unaccompanied Alien Children Services Program

Reports To: Assistant Program Director

CGS's Unaccompanied Alien Children Services Program serves children/youth presenting a range of challenging behaviors, especially those related to trauma symptoms. The program employs bilingual (Spanish/English) staff trained in refugee needs and Evidence-Based Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). It provides a safe, therapeutic, family-like environment that respects each child's age, cultural, ethnic, religious heritage, dietary needs, native language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other individual needs.

Basic Function

The Lead Youth Care Worker supervises Youth Care Workers, reviews their paperwork weekly, delegates tasks, and ensures constant visual supervision of residents. They promote positive behavior and reflect values through encouragement.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Establish a warm, homelike atmosphere with each child, focusing on positive growth.
• Monitor physical well-being, clothing, food, and medical treatments, including medication dispensation.
• Maintain a hazard-free, clean environment; report maintenance issues promptly.
• Inventory resident belongings on admission.
• Orient residents upon admission, ensuring all forms are signed.
• Encourage and assist with educational programs.
• Supervise adolescent care, personal belongings, and household maintenance.
• Promote good hygiene habits.
• Understand and nurture adolescents; participate in activities with them.
• Hold group discussions on daily activities.
• Participate in staff trainings.
• Be sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population served.

Requirements

• Interest in working with adolescents.
• HS Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of similar experience or training.
• Valid New York State driver's license.
• Punctuality and professionalism.
• Physical ability to meet job demands, including restraining.
• Availability for flexible shifts.
• Proficiency in Spanish required.
