Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a Youth Sports Instructor in Granby, CT. This part-time role focuses on teaching sports skills and promoting character development in a positive atmosphere for youth participants.

Under the Youth Development Director, you will model YMCA core values, help create a fun, engaging climate, supervise activities, and support volunteers. CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of health and fitness principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Current CPR, First Aid, & AED certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advanced.
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
• Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition.
• Act as a role model for YMCA Core Values.
• Help create a climate that fosters YMCA goals and a fun, engaging atmosphere for all participants.
• Proper care and storage of sports equipment.
• Supervise participants at all times during the day.
• Generate new ideas to implement into the schedule.
• Supervise and help train volunteers.
• All duties as assigned.

Reports to: Youth Development Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Youth Development Director the Youth Sports Instructor will help teach all levels of sports and character development in a positive atmosphere that will allow the participants to learn and grow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advanced
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
• Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition
• Act as a role model for YMCA Core Values
• Help create a climate that fosters YMCA goals and a fun, engaging atmosphere for all participants

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The candidate must have working knowledge of all principles of health and fitness.
• Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Current Community CPR, First Aid, & AED required within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
