Salary Range: $15.00 To $20.00 Hourly

Position summary:

Provide quality sports instruction in accordance with YMCA standards.

Reports To: Executive Director

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide enjoyable, high quality class instruction.
  • Appropriately demonstrate and instruct progressive skill instruction in accordance with YMCA program standards and guidelines.
  • Set up and break down equipment as necessary.
  • Sports instructor ensures to outlines the goals of the program.
  • Find coverage for self in event of an absence and then notify the Program Director of the change.
  • Provide encouragement during instruction while being an enthusiastic and positive representative of the YMCA.
  • Be a member service ambassador, remaining abreast of current programs and facility schedules; being prepared to provide personalized direction to other YMCA services.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all individuals in the program area, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports.
  • Communicate with program participants and parents, make them feel welcome and address them by name.
  • Responsible for attending staff meetings/events. Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Continually enhance professional development through certification trainings, additional work shops, educational courses and/or appropriate reading material.
  • Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA.
Education and/or Experience
  • High School (GED) preferred.
  • College background relating to youth, desired.
  • Must have previous experience and/or knowledge in areas offered.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, business reports, and procedure manuals as necessary.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before members or employees of the Association and the public is required.
  • Bilingual ability is a significant asset.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to anticipate, identify and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Certifications / Training:
  • Must be willing to attend training and certifications to improve knowledge and program quality.
Within first two months of employment:

All certifications must be renewed in a timely manner in accordance with general YMCA policies and based on fitness standards
