Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Hartford is hiring a part-time Youth Sports Instructor in Hartford, CT. You will teach sports skills across levels in a positive, values-driven environment and help youth develop character through sport.

Under the Youth Development Director, you will promote healthy lifestyles, supervise activities, and support volunteers while embodying YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of health and fitness Principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advanced.
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
• Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition.
• Act as a role model for YMCA Core Values.
• Help create a climate that fosters YMCA goals and a fun, engaging atmosphere for all participants.
• Proper care and storage of sports equipment.
• Supervision of participants at all points of the day.
• Generate new ideas to implement into the schedule.
• Supervise and help train volunteers.
• All duties as assigned.

Reports to: Youth Development Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Youth Development Director the Youth Sports Instructor will help teach all levels of sports and character development in a positive atmosphere that will allow the participants to learn and grow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advanced
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
• Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The candidate must have working knowledge of all principles of health and fitness.
• Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Current Community CPR, First Aid, & AED required within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
