Job summary

The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan in Manhattan, NY, is seeking a dynamic Youth Athletics Head Coach to plan, organize, and deliver sports activities for children aged 18 months to 13 years. You will lead multi-sport programs, teach diverse classes, and foster a safe, supportive environment that reflects our values.

Qualifications

  • Experience coaching sports and leading groups of children.
  • Minimum 3 years as collegiate or professional athlete (preferred).
  • Experience working with children in sports environment.
  • Skilled in coaching basketball, tennis, and soccer.
  • Energetic, upbeat, and positive role model.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building.
  • Comfort with large group instruction and clear voice.
  • CPR AED First Aid certification preferred; training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sports programming for various age groups.
  • Teach group athletics classes for school-age children including soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball, volleyball, pickleball, tumbling.
  • Assist nursery school sports programs (ages 2-5).
  • Foster fundamental movement skills and gameplay understanding.
  • Conduct drills and games with setup/cleanup and equipment management.
  • Enhance children's self-esteem through activity participation.
  • Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants.
  • Engage with JCC Children & Families community through meetings and development.
  • Perform light administrative tasks.
  • Promote JCC values and maintain a positive image.

The Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in Manhattan is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Youth Athletics Head Coach to join our team! The Youth Athletics Head Coach will help plan, organize, and deliver a variety of sports activities and programs for children ages 18 months to 13 years. The ideal candidate is passionate about sports, has interest and experience working with children, is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment, and is committed to embodying the values of the JCC. We are looking for someone who is reliable, motivated, and a team player.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help to develop and implement a range of sports programming and activities tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
  • Teach group athletics classes for school age children, including sports such as soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball, volleyball, pickleball, tumbling, and more.
  • Assist in nursery school sports programs (ages 2-5).
  • Foster children's fundamental movement skills ("run, catch, throw") and understanding of gameplay.
  • Conduct daily sport-specific drills and games, including set-up, clean-up, and equipment management.
  • Enhance children's self-esteem and confidence through successful physical activity and sports participation.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants and address any issues promptly.
  • Engage with the JCC Children & Families community through department meetings and professional development.
  • Perform light administrative tasks as needed.
  • Promote JCC values and maintain a positive image of the JCC at all times.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven experience in sports coaching.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a collegiate or professional athlete (preferred).
  • Experience working with children in a sports or related environment.
  • Proficiency in coaching a range of sports, including basketball, tennis, and soccer.
  • Energetic, upbeat, and able to maintain a positive attitude throughout the day.
  • Strong role model who promotes kindness, encouragement, and good values.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build effective relationships with staff and participants.
  • Comfort with large group instruction and ability to project voice in a large space.
  • Children's CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred; training will be provided.

COMPENSATION
  • This role offers a rate of $30-$40 per hour, commensurate with experience.
