Job summary

Gaston County Family YMCA is seeking an after school staff member to lead a group of children and develop fun, culturally relevant programming aligned with YMCA core values.

Under supervision of the Youth Development Program Director, you will supervise participants, implement activities, and build supportive relationships with families while maintaining safety and quality program operations.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children, preferred.
• Previous experience with diverse populations, preferred.
• Certifications and/or training such as Praesidium Academy Child Abuse Prevention Training, CPR/First Aid, and New Employee Orientation are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide active supervision of assigned participants at all times, ensuring safety and engagement.
• Plan, lead, and participate in developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive activities.
• Serve as a positive role model with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, and staff while upholding YMCA values.
• Maintain awareness of each child's needs and respond appropriately, including medical/developmental considerations.
• Assist with daily program operations, including assemblies, snacks, family events and transitions.
