Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is seeking a full-time Youth Activity Worker to support club operations, member recruitment, program development and community outreach. The role includes ensuring adherence to safety standards, coordinating sports and recreational activities, and providing development opportunities for youth aged 6–12.

The position requires 30+ hours per week with benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and a 401K plan.

Qualifications

  • First Aid/CPR certification or within two months of hire
  • Ability to drive an 8-passenger van (valid license, <5 points)
  • Experience working with Elementary and Middle School students
  • Must pass FBI clearance and multiple background checks per Delaware regulations

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate sports programs covering core areas; align with Youth Development Strategy
  • Assist in planning and operating club-wide activities
  • Assist in guidance and discipline of club members
  • Meet licensing training requirements (18 hours)

Job Summary

The Youth Activity Worker position is a full time nonexempt (hourly) position at least 30 scheduled hours a week/with benefits like medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K, and additional time off. YDP 30 positions will be assigned to a club and expected to float to other sites within their region (on an as needed basis) to ensure the organization as adequate coverage.

Youth Activity Worker can expect to play a critical role in leadership club operations. These could include, but are not limited to, member recruitment, program development and evaluation, community outreach, and professional development. During Summer Fun Club work hours may fluctuate above 30 hours per week.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitate well-rounded, well-organized sports programs that encompass all the Core Program Areas and follows the Youth Development Strategy and is designed to meet the objectives set by the incumbent and the Program Director. The program should be conducted in a professional manner, supportive of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware policies and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and operating club-wide activities.
  • Assist in the guidance and discipline of club members.
  • Meet Office of Child Care Licensing annual training requirements (18 hours)
  • Assure that administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in developing a positive identity for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the community.
  • Development, manage and implementing sports and recreational programs suitable for different age groups; to include sports events, tournaments, and competitions.
  • Inspecting sports and recreational facilities to ensure they are safe and well-maintained.
  • Promoting the sports and recreational programs to attract participants.
  • Ensuring all sports and recreational activities adhere to health and safety regulations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 20 years of age or older and ability to drive 8 passenger van (must have valid driver’s license with less than 5 points)
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, or completion of certification within two months of date of hire
  • High School diploma, experience working with Elementary and Middle School students.
  • Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per DelaCare regulations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental and working conditions vary from indoors to outdoors; various meeting locations in and out of the Club; occasional statewide travel (e.g., training). Employees are subject to transfer from one department to another and from one club/school.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a high energy level.
  • Be comfortable working with children ages 6-12 in varying levels of physical activity.
  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for activities.
  • Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Work Hours:

Monday –Friday; Split shift 6:30AM- 9:00AM & 2:30PM- 6:00PM
