Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking an Activity Associate - Kid Zone in Ellington, CT. Under the direction of the Membership Director, you will assist with the care and supervision of children and with maintenance of toys and equipment while parents use the YMCA’s facility.

You will engage children in play, monitor activities, and help create a safe, welcoming environment. Qualifications include experience with children, ability to relate to families, CPR/First Aid certification within 30

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and understanding of child development.
• Ability to build relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents/guardians.
• Ability to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for learning and relationship-building.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• At least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Assist with care for children including snacks, lunch, and comfort.
• Participate with children in play activities and ensure quality interactions.
• Monitor children’s activities and behavior continuously.
• Maintain cleanup and maintenance of toys and materials.
• Report problems or concerns to supervisor promptly.
• Support a safe, clean environment for staff and members.
• Report any evidence of child abuse to the appropriate staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of information from parents and staff.
• Provide friendly, courteous assistance and build relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
