Job summary

YMCA of Greater Hartford in Granby, CT is seeking an Activity Associate - Kid Zone to assist with the care and supervision of children and support toy and equipment maintenance while families use the facility.

Under the direction of the Membership Director or Senior Program Director, you will engage children in play, help with meals and transitions, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for families.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and an understanding of child development.
• Ability to build relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents/guardians.
• Ability to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for learning and relationship-building.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• At least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Care for children including snacks and lunch, bottle feedings, comforting injured or upset children.
• Participate with children in play activities, ensuring premier quality and innovation.
• Constantly monitor children’s activities and behavior.
• Be responsible for clean-up and maintenance of toys and materials.
• Communicate problems or concerns with program, staff, children or parents to appropriate staff member.
• Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and members.
• Report evidence of child abuse to supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of information provided by parents, staff and administration.
• Provide friendly, courteous assistance and build healthy relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
