If so, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, PA, wants you to join our team of Defenders of Potential. Our agency is seeking candidates for the position of Youth Activities Coordinator.

The Youth Activities Coordinator (YAC) is a full-time, in-office position and requires:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or related field
  • Strong organizational & people skills
  • The ability to work late once a week (typically a Tuesday night until 7:30pm)
  • Spanish bi-lingual fluency is a plus, but is not required.

The Youth Activities Coordinator (YAC) is the leading service provider in the BBBS of Berks service delivery model for all unmatched children (ages 8-18) and volunteers enrolled in the alternative mentoring program COUL, as well as children and volunteers involved in the Teen Program. The YAC directly oversees these two group-mentoring programs; plans & implements activities for those two programs; and supervises our group-mentoring volunteers. The YAC is also responsible for planning our annual Holiday Party and Summer Picnic with assistance from all staff. The YAC handles some administrative duties as well, serving as our primary receptionist and monitors online inquiries.

Starting salary for this position is $39,000.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Candidates should possess Training and mentoring-related skills to facilitate group activities, workshops, and youth development programs.
  • Candidates should possess awareness of Mental Health and youth well-being needs, with sensitivity to children facing adversity.
  • Candidates should possess Fundraising and community engagement skills to support events, initiatives, and donor or sponsor relationships.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include experience working with children or youth services, knowledge of positive youth development, organizational and time-management skills, and proficiency with basic office software.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, human services, or a related field—or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
  • The ability to work some evenings or weekends for activities and events, and the capacity to meet background check and child protection requirements, are required.
