Job summary

Destiny Arts Center, an Oakland-based nonprofit, seeks an Academic & Career Advisor to support high school students (ages 13–24) toward graduation, college or trade programs, and workforce readiness. This exempt role works with care teams to weave academic support into wraparound services.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, or related field, has at least 2 years working with youth, can lead workshops, and communicates with cultural responsiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience working directly with young people in youth development or related settings.
• Working knowledge of California A-G requirements, college and financial aid systems, and IEP processes.
• Ability to facilitate groups and lead workshops.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred; culturally responsive communication.

Responsibilities

• Guide students through graduation pathways, college applications, financial aid, and job readiness.
• Develop and deliver workforce-readiness workshops and internships connections.
• Coordinate with families and schools to support academic achievement and wraparound services.
• Maintain accurate case notes and assist with grant reporting and program operations.
• Support family advocacy and community engagement initiatives with cultural responsiveness.
