Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor is seeking a Facilities Support and Grounds Technician II to maintain campus grounds year-round and operate a range of maintenance equipment. The role requires independent work and the ability to guide junior staff as needed.

You will perform lawn care, snow and ice removal, and assist in coordinating maintenance activities while ensuring safety protocols. Opportunities to work near research facilities and support campus infrastructure are available.

Qualifications

• Three years of grounds maintenance or related duties.
• Ability to operate grounds equipment safely.
• Experience with safety procedures in work environments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus grounds year-round, including lawn care, gardening, planting, pruning, snow and ice removal, road and walkway maintenance, and general cleanup.
• Operate equipment such as skid-steer loaders, dump trucks, trash trucks, ride-on mowers, chainsaws, plows, and sanders.
• Identify, plant, prune, and trim campus trees and shrubs; assist in removing invasive species.
• Provide on-site guidance to contractors or small work crews and train junior technicians in routine maintenance and inspection procedures.
• Coordinate planned maintenance, outages, and construction activities related to assigned work.
• Use CMMS to record maintenance activities, complete checklists, and prepare reports.
• Participate in on-campus emergency response and other duties including nights, weekends, and holidays.
