Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Facilities Support and Grounds Technician II to join our Bar Harbor campus for year-round grounds care. You will maintain lawns, plantings, roads, and walkways, and assist with snow/ice removal while operating a range of grounds equipment.

The role includes mentoring junior technicians and coordinating with facilities colleagues to support safe, efficient research operations.

Qualifications

At least three years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related responsibilities.
Practical knowledge of grounds maintenance methods and safe operation of tools/equipment.
Experience in settings with safety and operational procedures.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Able to guide small work crews and train junior staff.

Responsibilities

Maintain campus grounds year-round, including lawn care, gardening, pruning, and general cleanup.
Perform routine grounds maintenance and materials handling tasks.
Troubleshoot and resolve more complex grounds maintenance and equipment issues, coordinating with specialists as needed.
Perform general maintenance and repairs within skill level; follow safety procedures.
Handle and transport materials, furnishings, equipment, trash, and recyclables; transport employees and visitors as assigned.
Operate equipment such as skid-steer loaders, dump trucks, ride-on mowers, chainsaws, plows, and sanders.
Identify, plant, prune, and trim campus trees, shrubs, and other plants; assist in removal of invasive species.
Operate and maintain underground irrigation systems; use CMMS to record activities and generate reports.
Provide on-site guidance to contractors or small work crews; train junior technicians in routine maintenance.
