Job summary

FedEx Corporation in Minnesota is seeking a yard switcher responsible for moving trailers, loading and unloading packages, and sorting by hand when needed. You will work safely in a fast-paced yard environment.

You may operate yard equipment, perform pre- and post-trip checks, and coordinate with supervision to optimize dock activity. Evening shift hours are provided. This is an entry-level role requiring a valid driver’s license and ability to lift and carry packages.

Qualifications

• No education required.
• 6 months experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers to sort packages correctly.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches by hooking and moving a parked trailer from yard to load/unload door or vice versa.
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follows safety processes for yard switching and package handling.
• Loads and unloads packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, or conveyor system carts.
• Lifts and carries packages for two to four hour shifts.
• Sorts packages by scanning labels and memorizing information.
