Job summary

FedEx is seeking personnel for yard switcher and package handler duties in the Pittsburgh area. The role involves moving trailers between yard and doors, loading and unloading as needed, and coordinating with central control to ensure smooth operations.

Candidates should be able to perform safety-inspected yard moves, operate basic equipment, and handle packages with care. A valid driver’s license and DOT file are required; six months experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers between yard and doors; perform loading/unloading as needed.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management or central control.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follow safe yard switching procedures and safety protocols.
• Handle packages using hand-to-surface methods as required.
• Load and unload packages onto vehicles and conveyors; sort according to labels.
• Lift and carry packages for short to moderate durations during shifts.
• Sort packages by reading labels and numbers and operating conveyor systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
