Job summary

A Tool Shed Inc. is seeking a Yard Supervisor to oversee the rental yard operations and lead yard staff in daily tasks. You will coordinate safety, equipment use, and customer service while ensuring efficient workflow and proper maintenance of fleet.

The role requires strong organizational skills, ability to train others, and clear communication with internal teams. Travel between store locations may be needed, with a typical 32-hour weekly schedule during peak seasons.

Qualifications

Job description

Summary: Yard Supervisors run the yard and instruct other yard staff to keep the rental yard running, as well as the duties and responsibilities of yard crew members. Yard Supervisors communicated with the inside sales staff for incoming and outgoing rentals throughout the day.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Train yard workers on all safety and equipment functions within the yard.
• Supervise yard workers to ensure safety and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain respect for yard personal by working with each individual within their own learning abilities and always being courteous and professional towards them at all times.
• Maintain yard/customer flow by staff assignments and coordination.
• Change Oil, Lubricate, and filter inspection and replacement of equipment.
• Inspection of equipment during service, and feedback to supervisor of below standard condition.
• Scheduled maintenance and repair upon proper training and direction.
• Cleaning and maintenance of work area and all areas related to A Tool Shed premises and business.
• May include driving associated with transfers of equipment, service calls, maintenance, and purchasing.
• Write legibly on all correspondence.
• Load and unload equipment such as forklifts, boom lifts, and backhoes.
• Know specifications and application of rental inventory.
• Inspect cargo to ensure it is properly loaded and secured.
• Record service or repair activities, coordinate with inside sales staff regarding rentals
• Instruct customers on equipment and safe operation.
• Other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

• A high school diploma / GED.
• 1+ years of warehouse, delivery, or routing experience.
• 1+ year of operations management or related experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize efficiently.
• Able to communicate and interact in a positive and professional manner.
• Attention to accuracy and detail.
• Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of equipment rental operations. Experience using and loading the equipment rented and sold by the Company.

Physical Requirements:

• More than 2/3 of time spent standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms. Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry a minimum of 50lbs safely.

A. English Language Skills

• 1. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three- syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
• 2. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the Company.
• 3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

B. Computer & Technology Skills

• 1. Ability to access and send email, communicate over the telephone.
• 2. Use software interfaces such as: Point-of-Rental (Dispatch, sales & rental system), Google Drive, Microsoft Office, TSO GPS, ADP WorkforceNow.

C. Mathematical Skills

• 1. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

D. Reasoning Ability

• 1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• 2. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

E. Analytical Skills

• 1. Ability to process and analyze vague, abstract verbal and written instructions.

F. Other

• 1. Hazards: Exposed to potential accidents of an incapacitating and/or fatal nature. Exposed to heights, electrical power lines.
• 2. Required Safety Equipment: Safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, safety shoes.

Work Environment:

• Most work will be performed outside.
• May be exposed to general warehouse conditions, in which some work areas may not be heated or air conditioned.
• The job requires constant interaction with customers, delivery drivers and internal staff.
• May have exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene and cleaning solvents. Regular exposure to factors such as temperature and weather extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes.

Travel, Work Hours, Supervision:

• Travel between store locations may be required.
• Department hours are Monday through Saturday 7am - 5pm, work schedule is dependent on seasonal need, typical annual average of 32 hours per week.
• This position is supervised by the assigned Store Manager.
