Job summary

Steel Service Corporation in Jackson, Mississippi is seeking a reliable Yard Spotter / Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Operations team. This full-time, outdoor role moves trailers, flatbeds, and materials to keep the production floor supplied and the shipping dock efficient.

The ideal candidate has experience operating yard spotters and heavy equipment, reads delivery tickets, and works in a busy fabrication yard. Safety gear and outdoor work are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of yard spotter truck experience.
• Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Experience loading and unloading flatbed trailers with heavy or oversized material.
• Experience in steel fabrication yard or heavy industrial yard environment preferred.
• Ability to read delivery tickets and load sheets.

Responsibilities

• Operate yard truck (spotter) to move and position trailers, flatbeds, and other vehicles within the yard, dock, and staging areas.
• Coordinate trailer pickup, drop, and positioning with drivers to ensure efficient dock flow.
• Operate forklifts and heavy equipment to load/unload materials and move components.
• Load outbound and unload inbound shipments, verify against tickets, report shortages or damage.
• Perform pre-operation inspections and report defects; maintain a safe yard and help with material staging.
• Assist shipping/receiving with documentation and ticket verification as needed.
