Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking a Yard Operator to support scrap handling, loading, unloading, and material inspections in our Minnesota yard. The role emphasizes safe operation of loaders, cranes, and related equipment, plus thorough scrap grade checks and adherence to quality standards.

Daily duties include coordinating with the scale, supervisor, and customers to ensure correct shipping requirements, while following safety procedures and contributing to continuous improvement of yard

Qualifications

• Experience with yard or similar material handling operations.
• Ability to inspect scrap for grade and quality and communicate findings.
• Willingness to learn scrap grading and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
• Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following quality standards.
• Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality; communicate deductions and downgrades to the scale.
• Ensure outbound materials meet safety and quality standards.
• Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC).
• Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment; maintain area clean and orderly.
• Provide excellent customer service and uphold Gerdau core values.
• Participate in daily safety routines.
