Job summary

Pacific Recycling, Inc. in White City, Oregon is seeking a hands-on Yard Manager to lead the yard team, coordinate material movement, and oversee outbound shipments. This role blends leadership with active yard work, including assisting with loading, operating equipment, and helping prepare shipments.

As the primary point of contact for daily operations, you will guide staff, promote safety, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment, reporting to the Eugene Yard Manager.

Qualifications

• Must have prior supervisory or lead experience.
• Experience in scrap metal, recycling, industrial, warehouse, or similar environments.
• Strong communication, organization and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and own issues.
• Willingness to perform hands-on yard work and operate equipment as needed.
• Comfort outdoors around heavy equipment and trucks.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside and supervise White City yard employees, assigning daily work and establishing priorities.
• Lead by example and participate directly in day-to-day yard operations.
• Ensure the yard operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company expectations.
• Oversee material movement, loading, unloading, storage, and shipment preparation.
• Coordinate outbound shipments and transportation needs with the Eugene transportation team.
• Work closely with the White City Scale Manager to coordinate yard, scale, and driver activities.
• Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day operational issues and take ownership of resolving problems.
• Provide coaching and feedback, conduct performance reviews, and address employee performance and attendance issues.
• Communicate significant staffing, safety, equipment, customer, and operational issues to the Eugene Yard Manager.
• Monitor yard equipment, housekeeping, and overall organization.
• Promote a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.

• Experience in scrap metal, recycling, industrial, warehouse, transportation, construction, or a similar environment preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of issues.
• Willingness to perform physical, hands‑on yard work and operate equipment as needed.
• Comfortable working outdoors around heavy equipment and trucks.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Physical & Equipment Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and work on uneven surfaces throughout the workday.
• Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely climb in and out of equipment and trucks.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate yard equipment, including forklifts, loaders, excavators, and other mobile equipment as needed.
• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, scrap metal, and other industrial materials.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including safety footwear, high‑visibility clothing, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, and other protective equipment as required.
• Must be able to safely perform the essential physical functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
