Alleghany Warehouse Company is seeking a Yard Management Supervisor to oversee daily yard, dock and trailer movement across the transportation network. You will coordinate with operations, carriers and drivers to plan receiving, shipping and delivery schedules, while maintaining accurate data and monitoring efficiency.

The role requires strong leadership, superb organizational skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvements in safety, quality and on-time performance within a warehouse

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED and 5–10 years experience or equivalent.
  • Experience coordinating yard, dock, routing and transportation activities.
  • Proven ability to monitor performance and improve efficiency.
  • Familiarity with SAP and documentation systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily yard, dock, trailer, routing and fleet activities.
  • Coordinate with operations, carriers, drivers and partners for schedules.
  • Manage routing, yard staging, dock assignments and equipment availability.
  • Maintain accurate trailer and routing data in transportation databases.

Yard Management Supervisor

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO

JOB SUMMARY

A key member of the Operations and Inventory Department, a Warehouse Yard Management Supervisor provides hands‑on operational coordination for the daily movement of trailers, freight, equipment, and materials across the yard, dock, and transportation network.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General
  • Supervise and coordinate daily yard, dock, trailer, routing, scheduling, fleet, and transportation network activities to support safe, and efficient movement of inbound and outbound materials.

  • Coordinate with Operations and Inventory teams, carriers, drivers and transportation partners, to plan receiving, shipping, delivery schedules, and trailer movement activity.

  • Manage daily routing, scheduling, yard staging, dock assignments, equipment availability, and fleet operations to support service commitments and timely deliveries.

  • Maintain and update accurate trailer, shipment, yard location, routing, shipping, logging, transportation rate, and route information using applicable transportation databases.

  • Monitor yard flow, trailer dwell time, gate congestion, dock utilization, inbound and outbound order activity, traffic patterns, and performance metrics to identify and resolve operational inefficiencies.

  • Implement and follow operational policies and procedures that support safety, compliance, efficiency, equipment control, and consistent transportation execution.

  • Audit yard and transportation processes to identify inefficiencies, improve workflow, and help ensure activities comply with applicable local, state, and federal transportation regulations.

  • Contact transportation providers to schedule freight pick‑up, confirm routing requirements, resolve service issues, and ensure cargo is routed appropriately.

  • Collect, review, and report data related to shipping rates, freight movement, traffic activity, service performance, and operating trends to support operations and inventory departments.

  • Partner with warehouse leadership to prioritize loads, manage yard capacity, support labor and equipment planning, and align daily and weekly volume requirements with available dock, trailer, fleet, and driver resources.

  • Investigate and communicate shipment, inventory, documentation, yard, routing, safety, compliance, or delivery discrepancies to the appropriate stakeholders for timely resolution.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school education or equivalent (GED); AND

  • At least 5 and typically 10 years of related experience or training; OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Has the ability to read and understand all Company documents;

  • Has the ability to write routine reports and correspondence;

  • Has the ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;

  • Basic knowledge of sending and receiving emails;

  • Basic knowledge of SAP and Opendoc is a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to:

  • Use hands to handle or feel, must be able to talk and hear;

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work near moving machinery or mechanical parts and occasional fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals;
