Job summary

Buchheit Family of Companies is seeking a Lumber Yard Foreman to oversee day-to-day lumber yard operations, supervise the yard team, and assist customers with material selections and loading. The role frequently involves forklift operation to move and load materials, while ensuring a safe, organized yard.

Responsibilities include directing daily yard activities, handling customer inquiries, maintaining yard appearance, and completing forklift inspections. CDL is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications

• Prior lumber yard and supervisory experience is essential.
• Forklift experience is preferred.
• CDL preferred but not required.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple verbal or written instructions.
• Effectively communicate with customers, management, and co-workers.
• Demonstrate initiative and effective problem-solving skills within the scope of the position.
• Work in a fast-paced environment.

• Direct the daily operations of the lumber yard team.
• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Answers questions, identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard.
• Load merchandise on to store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer.
• Assist with unloading deliveries, as necessary.
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in rack, according to grade and length.
• Reads work order, invoice, or follows oral instructions to determine materials or containers needing moved and/or loaded.
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise.
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner.
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials.
• Complete daily forklift inspections.
• Adhere to Loss Prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures.
• Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers.
• Effectively communicates customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members.
