Job summary

Paycom is seeking a yard tractor operator at our Joliet distribution center to position trailers, move loaded and empty units, and dock shipments for OTR drivers. The role requires two+ years of tractor-trailer experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to read and write English.

Safety, teamwork, and clear two-way radio communication are essential, with lifting and climbing involved. Must be willing to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Two years or more experience operating tractor trailers, including spotting trailers in congested areas.
• Must have a valid Driver's License; a CDL may be required at certain terminals.
• Ability to read and write in English; communicate via two-way radio.

Responsibilities

• Position trailers at designated dock doors.
• Shuttle loaded trailers to pickup areas for OTR drivers.
• Operate yard tractor safely to move empty and loaded trailers.
• Follow radio instructions to place trailers at proper doors.
• Inspect equipment, report damage, and keep yard clean and organized.
• Work nights and weekends as required.

Job description

Responsible for the positioning of trailers at the distribution center docks and shuttling loaded trailers to a designated location for pick up by OTR drivers.Safely and efficiently operate a yard tractor to maneuver empty and loaded trailers about the distribution center yard.Accurately follow radioed instructions in order to position specifically designated trailers to the proper door location.Safe chocking of trailer and operation of trailer equipment including fifth wheel, dolly, breaks, lights, and refrigeration unit settings.Inspect yard tractor for damage or broken equipment.Report trailer damage or broken equipment.Accurately complete work completion reports and equipment damage reports as required.Clean and tidy the yard truck and work area.Such other duties about the trailer yard as may be assigned.Maintain a professional and cooperative demeanor with customer representatives at all times.Must read and write in English. Two years or more experience operating tractor trailers, including the spotting of trailers in congested areas. Job involves some walking and frequent climbing in and out of the truck cab and on and off trailers. Must have ability to safely climb stairs, ladders, and equipment footholds. Frequent movement between truck cab and yard in all weather conditions. Requires ability to see clearly and safely perform tasks in all lighting conditions, including bright daylight, low light, and nighttime. Must possess ability to work nights and weekends where required.
