Job summary

City of Tacoma is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor within Environment & Public Works to oversee the daily activities of wastewater treatment plant workers and staff across 2 plants and 49 pump stations. The role includes safety leadership, budgeting, policy implementation, and coordination with multiple divisions.

You will develop maintenance programs, supervise staff, support hiring, and guide corrective and preventive work while ensuring compliance with environmental and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in water and wastewater treatment or related field, OR
• 2 years advanced coursework in wastewater technology or related technical training; OR
• certification as a journey-level Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician or Instrumentation Technician with training in industrial maintenance management, process control automation

Responsibilities

• Direct and lead daily work of multi-craft journey-level personnel responsible for preventive maintenance and corrective repairs at wastewater plants and infrastructure.
• Develop and implement maintenance programs, policies and procedures aligned with asset management best practices.
• Oversee safety, training and coaching; enforce sound risk management and safety rules.
• Oversee hiring and selection to ensure highly competent maintenance staff.
• Coordinate purchases of tools, materials, and services with planners and purchasing for timely repairs and construction.
