Job summary

University of Pikeville is seeking an MARCOM Student Media Assistant 2 - Photography to support our visual media efforts on campus. You will focus on photography and video production for events, athletics, and campus life, while learning from the MarComm team and guiding others on the student media group.

The role requires current enrollment at UPIKE with upper-level coursework in FMA, Art, or Communications, and offers hands-on mentorship, flexible hours, and opportunities to lead on major

Responsibilities

  • Take initiative to support campus photographer and student media team by learning university brand and media style.
  • Capture vibrant photos of student activities and assist at major events.
  • Shoot stock photography of campus buildings and student life across various settings.
  • Collaborate with MarComm staff to pitch and support media projects with photo/video content.
  • Assist with general video production projects when needed.
  • Support digital asset management by tagging archival footage.
  • Commit to 3–5 in-office hours weekly for batch-editing and mentorship.
  • Deliver shot footage to supervisor for posting on university galleries.

MARCOM Student Media Assistant 2 - Photography

Join the Marketing & Communications team to support our visual media efforts, with a strong emphasis on photography and video production. In this hands-on role, you will produce dynamic content covering campus events, athletic match-ups, and general campus life. You will also gain valuable real-world experience by supporting the supervisor on major, high-priority photo-shoots and team media days. This job is an upper level role on the student media team, applicant should a student with upper level coursework or experience in the majors of FMA, Art or Communications dedicated to learning from MarComm staff and leading others on the student- team.

Responsibilities And Career Competencies

  • Take initiative to support the campus photographer and rest of student media team by being present and willing to learn the universities brand and style of media we capture. C, P,
  • Capture vibrant photos of student-sponsored activities and assist the supervisor at major events, including white coat ceremonies, commencements, and press conferences. TW, T
  • Shoot general stock photography of campus buildings and student life across various settings, such as morning light, plaza activities, night scenes, and weather events L, T
  • Collaborate directly with MarComm staff to pitch, execute, and support media projects with necessary photo and video content. L,P, TW
  • Ability to assist with general video production projects if needed. t, TW, T
  • Support digital asset management efforts by properly tagging archival footage. T
  • Commit to 3-5 designated in-office hours each week. This time is specifically reserved for batch-editing photos from large shoots and receiving direct mentorship and training from the MarComm team P, T,
  • Deliver shot footage (photos/video) in a timely fashion in uncropped format to supervisor so they may be posted on university galleries. P, T,

Education Requirements: Must be enrolled and in good academic standing at UPIKE.

Work Schedule: Monday–Saturday varies depending on workload. No Sunday hours. Flexible to fit student class schedule.

Work Conditions: Normal office environment; heat, cold, noise.

Physical Demands: Keyboarding, reaching/handling, stooping/kneeling.

Pay Rate: $9.75/hour

Location: Administration Building, 1st Floor
