The University of Pikeville invites applications for an Internship – Athletics - Athletic Administration. This entry-level internship offers real-world, hands-on experience with the administrative side of running multiple athletic events at UPIKE.

You'll assist with game day setup and operations, ticketing, scoring, staffing, and community service reporting, while maintaining flexibility for evening, weekend, and holiday events. Start date: 09/01/26; program runs through summer, fall and spring.

Qualifications

  • This academic internship provides real-world, hands-on experience with the administrative side of running multiple athletic events.
  • Preferred qualifications include being a full-time UPIKE undergraduate student with an interest in Health and Human Performance, Business, Sports Management, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Game Day Setup: coordinate pre-event logistics and equipment staging for home events.
  • Game Day Operations: oversee live event workflows and assist in managing event logistics.
  • Game Day Tear Down: direct post-event breakdown and secure equipment.
  • Ticket Gate Operations: manage guest services, ticketing, and POS operations.
  • Operating the Clock / Official Scoring: operate scoreboards and timing systems under pressure.
  • Game Day Staffing Management: track and optimize student worker schedules using spreadsheets.
  • Community Service Administration: audit and report student-athlete community engagement data.

This academic internship will allow the intern to receive real world, hands on experience with the administrative side of running multiple athletic events.

Responsibilities And Career Competencies
  • Game Day Setup: Coordinate and execute pre-event logistics, facility transformations, and equipment staging for home athletic events to ensure compliance with NAIA and conference regulations. (NACE Competencies: Leadership, Critical Thinking)
  • Game Day Operations: Oversee live event workflows, troubleshoot real-time operational challenges, and assist in managing event logistics to deliver a seamless experience for student-athletes, officials, and spectators. (NACE Competencies: Critical Thinking, Teamwork)
  • Game Day Tear Down: Direct post-event breakdown procedures, secure athletic equipment, and conduct facility post-checks to restore competition spaces efficiently. (NACE Competencies: Professionalism, Leadership)
  • Ticket Gate Operations: Manage front-facing guest services, ticket distribution, gate admission procedures, and point-of-sale operations while delivering professional customer service. (NACE Competencies: Professionalism, Communication)
  • Operating the Clock / Official Scoring: Serve as a core member of the gameday table staff by accurately operating scoreboards, official game clocks, and statistical timing systems under high-pressure game conditions. (NACE Competencies: Critical Thinking, Professionalism)
  • Game Day Staffing Management: Analyze, track, and optimize gameday student worker schedules using spreadsheet software to maintain proper staffing ratios across all event positions. (NACE Competencies: Technology, Leadership)
  • Community Service Administration: Audit, organize, and report student-athlete community engagement data within department tracking systems to evaluate outreach efforts and support institutional goals. (NACE Competencies: Technology, Critical Thinking)
  • Digital Media & Production (Optional/Skill-Based): Create digital graphics, manage live-stream broadcasts, and execute media day logistics to bolster the department’s brand presence and digital outreach. (NACE Competencies: Technology, Communication)

Preferred Qualifications: A full-time UPIKE undergraduate student with an interest in studying Health and Human Performance, Business, Sports Management, or a related field, as well as student-athletes, are encouraged to apply. Interest in collegiate athletics or athletic administration; strong organizational and communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; dependability; and experience with office operations, events, data entry, customer service, or team environments

Additional Comments: Student must work a minimum of 80 hours in the semester. Student must enroll concurrently into CVL 401: Integrated Internship Experience and successfully complete this course.
