Wound Care Nurse RN

Classification: Non-exempt

Reports to: Director of Nursing and Director of Woundcare

Summary/Objective: The Wound Care Nurse RN plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing care to all Guests. Responsibilities include performing skin treatments, obtaining treatment orders from physicians, and modifying treatment regimens in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  1. Consults with Nursing team concerning assessment evaluations and assists in planning and developing skin care treatment.
  2. Initiates requests for consultation or referral.
  3. Examines the Guest and their records to recognize when to refer the Guest to a physician.
  4. Acts as a Unit Nurse when directed.
  5. Provides supervision to C.N.A’s and subordinate staff.
  6. Administers medications within the scope of RN practice.
  7. Maintains a current report of narcotics received and used.
  8. Charts detailed evaluations of each Guest reflecting their condition and progress.
  9. Ensures Guest care plans are followed and assesses each Guest’s status.
  10. Rounds with physicians when needed.
  11. Provides wound care when needed.
  12. Completes medical records documenting care provided.
  13. Assures established infection control and prevention practices are maintained.
  14. Reports all hazardous conditions and supply issues.
  15. Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Guests.
  16. Answers and responds to call lights promptly.
  17. Communicates effectively with Guests, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  18. Participates in departmental meetings and in-services.
  19. Supports QAPI efforts and communicates opportunities for improvement.

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct supervisor responsibilities for Certified Nurse Aides and other personnel assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a health care setting, requiring regular walking and contact with patients.

Physical Demands: Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting items and patients weighing at least 50 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Rotating shifts, including holidays and inclement weather.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  2. Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (R.N.) License in the state of practice.
  3. C.P.R. Certified.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. 3 years’ experience as an R.N. or L.P.N. in a long-term care setting.
  2. W.O.C. or W.O.C.N. certified.
  3. One year experience as a C.N.A.
