The World Language Teacher Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. If you are currently in the 2025-2026 World Language Teacher Pool eligibility pool, you must submit a completed application to be considered for a position in the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Specifics:

The World Language Certificated Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year.

The San Diego Unified School District accepts applications for World Language Teachers on a continuous basis for regular full-time and part-time assignments. Candidates who wish to teach French, Japanese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Spanish, American Sign Language or any other world language should apply to this pool. San Diego Unified is looking for world language teachers for elementary immersion, secondary immersion and secondary world language settings.

This is a continuous recruitment which will be used to establish an ongoing eligibility list. Candidates that do not wish to be considered for regular full-time/part-time positions should apply to the substitute teacher pool to be considered for temporary assignments.

Credential areas considered for this pool are:

  • A valid teaching credential in a specific world language, or
  • A valid teaching credential with a bilingual authorization in a specific language.
  • Candidates eligible for a Single Subjects Credential in World Language or a bilingual authorization may be considered. Please reference the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website for details.

This pool is for individuals who:

  • Hold a valid teaching credential,
  • Are enrolled in a college/university to attain a teaching credential,
  • Are intern eligible through their college or university, or
  • Are eligible for a Short-Term Staffing Permit (STSP) (see CCTC STSP Requirements for eligibility requirements).

Application Process

To be eligible for consideration, interested candidates must submit the following. Your online application will be considered incomplete if you do not include all required information, including completion of the Work Experience and Education Sections of the online application, required attachments, and responses to all application questions.

  • Copy of a valid teaching credential, proof of enrollment in a credentialing program (candidates must be scheduled to graduate within 6 months), proof of intern eligibility, or proof of short-term staffing permit eligibility.
  • Contact information for three professional references must be listed under the References section of the application. References should be from a current or previous supervisor. We will contact your professional references during the application screening process. Written reference letters dated within the last year are also accepted.
  • Contact information for all previous places of employment must be listed under the Employment History section of the application (AB 2534). As of January 1, 2025, in accordance with Education Code section 44939.5, applicants for certificated positions are required to provide a complete list of every school district or state education entity with which you have previously been employed.

Required documents must be attached to the online employment application to be considered. All application questions should be answered thoroughly and clearly, as the responses provided will be reviewed to determine which candidates will move forward. Please complete the online application to include all current and previous paid work history and education. Indicate any unpaid volunteer or internship experience. The length of time you worked in each position must be clearly shown. The examination process includes an application screening based on education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional references will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement. Candidates selected to proceed will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the process will be placed on an eligible list for one school year to fill vacancies.
