The Special Education Certificated Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. If you are currently in the 2025-2026 Special Education Certificated Pool, you must submit a completed application to be considered for a position in the 2026-2027 school year.

POSITION SPECIFICS:

The Special Education Certificated Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year.

The San Diego Unified School District accepts applications for Special Education Teachers and Related Services Providers on a continuous basis for regular full-time and part-time assignments.

This is a continuous recruitment which will be used to establish an ongoing eligibility list. Candidates that do not wish to be considered for regular full-time/part-time positions should apply to the substitute teacher pool to be considered for temporary assignments.

Credential areas considered for this pool are:

  • Early Childhood Special Education
  • Mild/Moderate; Mild to Moderate Support Needs
  • Moderate/Severe; Extensive Support Needs
  • Medically Fragile
  • Visually Impaired
  • Adapted Physical Education
  • Other Health Impairment
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Any other special education teaching or non-classroom position

This pool is for individuals who:

  • Hold a valid teaching credential,
  • Are enrolled in a college/university to attain a teaching credential,
  • Are intern eligible through their college or university (proof from program on letterhead required and including anticipated completion date), or
  • Are eligible for a Short-Term Staffing Permit (STSP) (see CCTC STSP Requirements for eligibility requirements).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid credential.
  • Candidates eligible for a credential may be considered. Please reference the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website for details(click here to view ).

Application Process

To be eligible for consideration, interested candidates must submit the following. Your application will be considered incomplete if you do not include all required information, including completion of the Work Experience and Education Sections of the online application, required attachments, and responses to all application questions.

  • Copy of a valid teaching credential, proof of enrollment in a credentialing program (candidates must be scheduled to graduate within 6 months), proof of intern eligibility, or proof of short-term staffing permit eligibility.
  • Contact information for three professional references must be listed under the 'References' section of the application. References should be from a current or previous supervisor. We will contact your professional references during the application screening process of this application. Written reference letters dated within the last year are also accepted and may be attached to your online application in the Reference section.
  • Contact information for all previous places of employment where you served in a certificated position must be listed under the 'Employment History' section of the application (Assembly Bill 2534). As of January 1, 2025, in accordance with Education Code section 44939.5 (as amended by California AB 2534) applicants for certificated positions are required by law to provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school (also known as a Local Education Agency (LEA)) with which you have previously been employed, regardless of the length of service. The District may contact current and former LEAs at any time during the application screening process.
    • In accordance with California Assembly Bill 2534, all applicants for certificated positions must provide a complete employment history. Please adhere to the following:
    • List Every Educational Employer: You must include every school district, county office of education, charter school, other educational institutions, or state special school where you have been employed, regardless of your length of service.
    • HR Contact Information: In the Employer Email field, you must provide the email address for that employer's Human Resources or Personnel Office(i.e., not your direct supervisor).

Note:These email addresses are required to satisfy the employment verification and background requirements mandated by Education Code section 44939.5.

Required documents must be attached to the online employment application to be considered. All application questions should be answered thoroughly, clearly, and concisely as the responses provided (along with the entire application package) will be carefully reviewed to determine which candidates will move forward in the recruitment process. Please complete the online application to include all current and previous paid work history and education. Indicate on the application if you have unpaid volunteer or internship experience. The length of time you worked in each position or assignment must be clearly shown. A resume may be attached, but not substituted for completing the work history, education sections, or the supplemental questions of the employment application. Providing incomplete responses or answering "See Resume" or "See Application" may automatically disqualify your application from further consideration.

Examination Process

The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidate's education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional References will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed in the examination process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Candidates selected to proceed in the examination process will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on an eligible list for a period of one school year. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at various school sites.
