Job description

Education & Workforce Development Coordinator (Family Shelter & Housing Program)

Some people just need a place to sleep. Others need a path—one step at a time—back to safety, stability, and independence.

As our Education & Workforce Development Coordinator, you’ll design and deliver empowering learning programs for adults and teenagers living in a family residential shelter and for families transitioning into permanent housing. You’ll help residents build the practical skills, confidence, and community connections they need to secure lasting stability—through a trauma-informed, age-appropriate approach that meets people where they are.

If you’re passionate about education as a tool for resilience, and you thrive in environments where relationships matter as much as outcomes, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and implement learning tracks for adults and teens, tailored to age-specific needs and developmental stages.
  • Create trauma-informed personal development curricula covering:
    • Personal care, household management, communication, and community navigation
    • Financial literacy and budgeting
    • Employment readiness and job search strategies
    • Housing readiness, apartment hunting, and maintaining tenancy
    • Parenting skills and self-advocacy
  • Lead weekly life skills classes for shelter residents and participants in our housing program.
  • Facilitate teen-focused sessions that support academic success, career exploration, healthy relationships, and future planning.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing life skills assessments, then build individualized plans based on goals and needs.
  • Work closely with case managers to align your programming with each family’s housing and service plan.
  • Provide follow-up support as families transition to permanent housing—monitor progress, adjust programming, and maintain documentation.
  • Build and strengthen community partnerships with employers, training programs, and educational institutions.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, workshops, and resource connections (GED, job training, mental health services, and more).
  • Maintain accurate records and help track program effectiveness through reports and documentation.
Who You Are
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field (required)
  • 2+ years of experience working with homeless populations or in residential settings
  • Experience designing and facilitating educational programming for adults and/or youth
  • A solid understanding of trauma-informed care and the barriers families face (housing discrimination, employment hurdles, system navigation)
  • Strong group facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse individuals—including those facing mental health challenges, disabilities, or other barriers
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and database management
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Bonus points if you have
  • A Master’s degree
  • Experience with family homelessness or emergency shelter programs
  • Background in adult education or youth development
  • Certifications related to life skills, financial counseling, or job readiness
  • Experience building community-based programming and resources
The Impact
  • Stronger housing readiness and long-term stability
  • Increased employment preparedness and self-advocacy
  • Improved family confidence, goal-setting, and daily-life independence
  • Better alignment between education programming and housing case plans
Working Conditions
  • Primarily based in the family shelter facility, with outreach and programming in community settings
  • Some evening hours required
  • Fast-paced environment with real-world challenges, including family crises and mental health situations
  • Close collaboration with shelter staff, case managers, housing specialists, and community partners
Job Details
  • Job Location: Reading Road - Cincinnati, OH 45237
