Job summary

South Plains Community Action Association, Inc. is seeking a counselor to guide customers toward self-sufficiency by assisting with WorkinTexas registrations and providing information on Workforce services.

The role includes referring customers to suitable jobs, contacting employers for hiring needs, and entering job orders into WIT on behalf of employers. The counselor will also deliver unemployment guidance and support RESEA orientations.

Qualifications

• A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• A bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Ability to understand instruction without constant supervision is essential.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with people from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds is essential.

Responsibilities

• Register customers in WorkinTexas (WIT) and provide information on Workforce services.
• Refer customers to jobs based on their experience and skill.
• Contact employers to assist with hiring needs and enter job orders into WIT on behalf of employers.
• Send out job notifications to customers and provide basic unemployment information.
• Facilitate the Reemployment Service (RESEA) Orientation and ensure RESEA applications are entered into WIT.
• Assist customers in the resource room with completing WIT applications, resumes and job searches using the resource room computers.

Job description

The counselor will work with customers to provide direction in developing the best and quickest route to self-sufficiency. The counselor will be responsible for registering customers in WorkinTexas (WIT) and providing customers with information on all Workforce services. The counselor will refer customers to jobs base upon their experience and skill. The counselor may contact employers to assist them with their hiring needs. The counselor may enter job orders into WorkinTexas on behalf of employers and may send out job notifications to customers. The counselor will provide basic unemployment information to individuals desiring to file for unemployment benefits. The counselor may facilitate the Reemployment Service (RESEA) Orientation and ensure that RESEA customers work applications are correctly entered into WIT. The counselor will ensure that all required services are entered in WIT for all customers. The counselor will assist customers in the resource room with completing their WIT applications, resumes and job searches using the resource room computers. The counselort will facilitate workshops.

A High Scholl diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.

Ability to understand instruction without constant supervision is essential. Ability to work and communicate effectively with people from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds is essential.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSED RERUIREMENTS:

• Must have at least a Class C Driver’s License
