Job summary

National Interstate Insurance Company is seeking a California-based Senior Workers' Comp Claims Specialist to join our team. This fully remote role requires expertise in handling complex workers' compensation claims and coordinating investigations across the claims life cycle.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 13+ years of property and casualty claims experience, and may possess an AIC designation. CA WC experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
  • Completion of or progress toward a professional designation such as Associate in Claims (AIC) is preferred.
  • Preference for California Workers' Compensation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
  • Leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability and damages.
  • Analyzes and negotiates settlements/reserves within authority; may attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
  • Communicates complex coverage and settlement information to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
  • Authorizes payments within assigned authority limit and ensures timely disbursement.
  • Maintains detailed claim files with correspondence, reports, and settlements.
  • May supervise staff and participate in talent decisions for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

National Interstate is looking for a California Senior Workers Comp Claims Specialist to join their team. This individual will work fully remote from the USA

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
  • Strategically orchestrates and leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
  • Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority. May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
  • Conveys highly complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
  • Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Experience: Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).

Prefer CA Work Comp Experience

Scope of Job/Qualifications: Works at the highest authority limits on assignments of the highest technical complexity and coordination. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates expert knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures. Maintains and leverages knowledge of industry laws and regulations. Advanced ability to organize and prioritize caseloads, ensuring timely resolution of claims. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and lead negotiations. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Recognized as a subject matter expert within the company, potentially operating at a peer level to management.

$95,000.00 -$105,000.00
