Bosun, a minority-owned insurance defense firm, seeks a Workers' Compensation Associate in New York. This remote-first role allows flexible work while requiring occasional in-person appearances for NY courts, collaborating with experienced partners to handle defense matters across premises liability, motor vehicle, and labor law cases.

You will manage defense files, participate in hearings, depositions, and mediations, draft pleadings, and communicate with clients and carriers.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active admission to the New York State Bar.
• 3–7 years of worker's compensation defense experience preferred.
• Litigation experience in personal injury, general liability, and/or insurance defense.
• Prior experience representing insurance carriers or working within an insurance defense firm.

Responsibilities

• Manage worker's compensation defense files from inception through resolution.
• Attend virtual and in person hearings, depositions, mediations, and conferences.
• Draft and respond to discovery, motions, and other legal pleadings.
• Conduct and defend depositions of parties and witnesses.
• Prepare clients and insureds for depositions and court proceedings.
• Appear in court for conferences, hearings, oral arguments, and other proceedings.
• Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.
• Assist with or lead trial preparation, including second chair or first chair opportunities depending on experience.
• Communicate effectively with clients, insurance carriers, and opposing counsel.
• Ensure timely reporting and compliance with firm procedures and client guidelines.

Worker's Compensation Associate, Litigation (New York)

A well established minority owned insurance defense litigation firm serving major insurance carriers and their insureds. Remote first, mentorship focused, with a supportive team first culture and clear paths to advancement. The firm handles premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, professional liability, construction and workplace accidents, and New York Labor Law matters. Both roles below are open now and the firm is interviewing immediately.

Remote. Must reside within commutable distance of New York courts for in person appearances.

Overview

We are seeking a Litigation Associate for our established and growing Insurance Defense Practice in New York. You will work closely with experienced partners while maintaining autonomy appropriate to your experience level. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your litigation skills in a collaborative, supportive environment. We represent major insurance carriers and their insureds in a broad range of liability and personal injury matters. Responsibilities and case complexity will align with your experience level.

Minimum Qualifications

• Prior experience representing insurance carriers or working within an insurance defense firm

• Ability to manage a caseload with increasing independence based on experience level
• Experience with court appearances, depositions, and motion practice
• Familiarity with billing practices and adherence to client guidelines
