Job summary

The School District of Lee County operates Pinewoods Elementary in Estero, Florida and is seeking a Worker for Food and Nutrition Services. The role supports meal preparation, service, and sanitation while ensuring accuracy in cash handling and records.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive attitude toward all students and staff.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of foods, following standardized recipes and menus, price schedules, and portion controls in accordance with work production standards.
• Set up food serving lines and serve meals, meal components, and beverages.
• Store food and supplies as directed; assist in taking inventories.
• Accept and count money, tickets, or tokens for food and beverages served; record transactions; and maintain accountability of sales.
• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes and utensils; scrub and sanitize counters and tables; mop floors; and dispose of wastes properly.
• Operate and clean all kitchen equipment.
• Keep work area clean and orderly.
• Follow safety and sanitation rules at all times when handling food and using equipment.
• Adhere to safety regulations/guidelines.
• May assist new Food and Nutrition Services employees, student employees, or volunteers in becoming familiar with their assignments.
• Comply with all requirements of the local, state, and federal Food and Nutrition Services programs, including attendance at all District food service trainings.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Food Handler Certification or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• One (1) year of experience in commercial or institutional food service.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; organizational and management skills; mathematical skills.
• Manual dexterity skills to shred, chop, assemble, and mix food items.
• Record keeping and cash registration skills.
• Basic computer skills and/or the ability to be trained in basic computer skills to operate District electronic systems.
• Knowledge of general policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
• Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
• Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.
