Role Description
This is a contract role for a Workday Payroll Manager. The Workday Payroll Manager will manage daily payroll operations, including payroll processing, payroll tax administration, and garnishments. The role also involves managing employee benefits and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. This is an on-site role located in Philadelphia, PA.
Job Summary:
·The U.S. Senior Payroll Operations Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end management of U.S. payroll operations. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal and multi-state tax regulations, and adherence to company policies and internal SOX controls. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with payroll platforms such as Workday, UKG Kronos, ADP, or other major payroll systems. This role also provides support for Workday-related payroll issues and time tracking while partnering with HR and Finance to ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
·Own and execute all aspects of U.S. payroll processing, including regular, off-cycle, and bonus payrolls for multi-state employees.
·Ensure compliance with FLSA regulations, including proper calculation of overtime and handling of exempt/non-exempt status.
·Manage multi-state taxation issues, including state/local withholding, unemployment insurance, and compliance with labor laws.
·Review and maintain payroll policies and procedures and ensure compliance with internal SOX and audit requirements.
·Act as Tier 2 support for Workday payroll/time entry issues, collaborating with end-users and power users to resolve issues and deliver on-the-spot training.
·Maintain documentation of payroll operations, identify recurring issues, and recommend process improvements.
·Lead the setup and maintenance of payroll system data, including pay groups, deductions, garnishments, direct deposits, and time reporting.
·Support audits and prepare reports as needed for Finance, HR, and external auditors.
·Work closely with HRIS and technical teams to ensure integrity of payroll-related data in Workday or other systems.
·Support certified payroll and tax filing requirements as needed.
Qualifications:
·5+ years of experience in U.S. payroll operations, preferably with large employers (1000+ employees).
·Strong hands-on experience with Workday and/or UKG Kronos; other payroll systems (ADP, Ceridian, Paychex, etc.) are a plus.
·Knowledge of U.S. multi-state payroll tax regulations and filing procedures.
·Strong understanding of FLSA, overtime calculations, and wage & hour compliance.
·Experience with certified payroll reporting and year-end processes.
·Familiarity with SOX controls in payroll operations.
·Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
·Experience supporting or managing time tracking tools and data maintenance in payroll systems.
·Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
